  1. 1908-1985. Albanian Communist politician, the
  2. country's leader from 1954. He founded the
  3. Albanian Communist Party 1941, and headed the
  4. liberation movement 1939-44. He was prime
  5. minister 1944-54, combining with foreign
  6. affairs 1946-53, and from 1954 was first
  7. secretary of the Albanian Party of Labour. In
  8. policy he was a Stalinist, and independent of
  9. both Chinese and Soviet communism.
